Hey all!

I just picked up a 70s octave divider and have been having a ball messing with it thus far, but I wanted to put the feelers out and see what others have done with it. By that I mean, where at in your chain do you have it at, what settings do you use, do you use the ringer ever, etc.?

I’ve read through most of the threads on here regarding it and wanted some more precise answers for settings and whatnot. I currently have a Boss EQ>Mu-Tron III (original with TB)>Octave Divider>the rest of the board. I’m getting the tones I want for the most part, the Octave Divider is just as finicky as ever and I’ve noticed there’s quite a volume drop between the regular effect and the bass only setting, but this is kind of remedied by the aforementioned boss EQ. Really just wanting to nail the usual uses while getting as close to the chaotic close encounters-esc sounds that I can. And with the current order, I’ve noticed there isn’t quite enough “quack” in the envelope, perhaps it’s being buried by the octave?

I got it for a great price (in today’s market) so I’m not entirely against eventually sending it to Lingenberg if I must, but I’m also thinking of looking into what it’d take for me to make it true bypass myself.

I’ve tried that and it does seem to mingle with the Mu-Tron better while also tracking better, but with the Octave Divider first I get a loud “POP” anytime I engage the effect switch. I know sometimes pedal order can cause this, but I have no clue why, could it be the buffers I have in place, or perhaps the differing power supplies?

Here’s my exact pedal order as it sits:

Guitar>JHS Little Black Box>Dunlop Crybaby>Boss GE-7>Mu-Tron III>Mu-Tron Octave Divider>Electro Harmonix Soul Food>Ibanez TS-9>Phase 100>Boss DD-3>Amp

If I were to switch the pedals around, I’d then have:

Little Black Box>Crybaby>Octave Divider>GE-7>Mu-Tron III….
I use the GE-7 to push the envelope filter from the front, so it stays with it.

The Octave Divider is unmodified and relies on the original hardwired power supply, the Mu-Tron III is true bypass and also uses its original external power brick, the rest of the board is powered by a OneSpot CS12. The CS12 and both Mu-Trons are plugged into the same power strip.

Try the set up going from the JHS black box-octave-mutron III etc. The cry baby may be affecting the octave.
