Hi there,

Wondering if anyone owns or has played any of the Squier Classic Vibe Strats? They have great reviews for the price point. I owned a Classic Vibe tele for a few years and it was a great guitar. Thinking of purchasing one of the strats to use/modify as an Alligator guitar. Wondering if anyone has an opion about which of the 3 Classic Vibes guitars has specs closest to Alligator?

Cheers,
Zach

It's funny how Fender is marketing those 3 guitars as separate models as, upon perusing the specs, they seem to me to all have the same pickups, scale length, nut width, neck carve, frets, and trem. On this basis, if it were me, I'd choose the '50's model because I prefer a maple fretboard like Alligator's. But you'll be fine with any of them, especially if you change out at least the middle pickup.

Otherwise, I agree with you that the Squier Classic series guitars are true price/performance winners. If you want to dip your toes in the water with an S-style guitar for < $1.10/day for a year and then you own it outright, I don't think you can do much better than with a Squier plus due to the Fender name they tend to hold their value relatively well if you later choose to sell it and upgrade.

You ain’t getting swamp ash for $400!

The Tech Specs On the Sweetwater pages show the bodies to be ‘50s/pine, ‘60s/nato, and ‘70s/poplar.

The ‘70s poplar is a real surprise as the finish is natural. Poplar usually has greenish streaks which is why it’s usually covered with an opaque finish.
