When it doesn't fit anywhere else

Anybody here play the CSN song "Teach your Children"?

I think I've pretty much got the lyrics and the melody down, but there's just one word in the song that doesn't seem to make any sense. The part where he goes:

"Feed them on your dreams. the one they picks , the one you'll know by."

Is this really picks? or am i hearing it wrong? Am i missing something here? They seem to accent this word in the song, which makes it even stranger that they didn't just use "pick". It's not like it even rhymes with anything.

It is "picks" for sure. I guess if you feed them on your dreams the children will select the dream appropriate for them. I guess he is saying you can not pass on all your beliefs to your kids so be content with the ones the accept. Then again he could have been stoned when he wrote it and could not find anything else that fit the meter.
