My neighbor has a small studio and likes to interview local musicians - one guy did a very different take on Truckin' and its pretty different.

At first the Dead Snob in me didn't like it but then the part of me that likes original music decided it was pretty cool.
What do you think ?

Well that’s certainly different! But is it Truckin’ or a new piece of music that incorporates some of Truckin’s lyrics? Like many things, it comes down to linguistic analysis.

just write a totally different/new song at that point

It's got a unique groove. almost does the song a disservice to use Truckin' lyrics instead of something original to match the groove.
