Space? To me Space has no time signature and a "freely" tempo (if both are possible at once) I haven't heard ALL of the early ones but, but they definitely keep the rhythm going and go into a modal jam... I've always played the standard arrangement but, it sounds to me at least on both 10/9&10/82 (a couple of weeks after the first one) like the band comps the intro vamp on the A major chord while Jerry goes a lil nutty (and pretty darn major/minor ambiguous) playing an A Dorian all over it.
I just noticed that the chords to the bridge of the song appear to be posted in the songs section incorrectly:
C#m____________A__________________E
Commissars and pin-striped bosses roll the dice
Bm___________G______________________A
Any way they fall guess who gets to pay the price.
E ______________A___________E
Money green or proletarian gray,
________Bm_______________A
Selling guns instead of food today.
My band plays it as:
C#m____________A___________E
Commissars and pin-striped bosses roll the dice
______________Bm____A_______________E______________E!D!
Any way they fall guess who gets to pay the price.
E_______________A____________E
Money green or proletarian gray,
________Bm_______________A
Selling guns instead of food today.
Bob always said this was their most
apolitical song. Think about it.
