i think somebody in your orignial thread said it best. The dead are all about improv or something like that.

Practice your scales, i suggest learning the major scale pattern rooted on the low E string first, that should make learning the pentatonic major/minor pattern/relationship easier to understand. Once you learn the minor pentatonic and you understand root notes, then you can start to IMPROVISE.

To sum it up in two words STUDY JAZZ

If you dont learn to improv you'll miss alot of the magic that the dead were all about. Do you're own thing. Dont just learn every dead song note for note so you can impress deadheads and hippies. thats boring.

The primary reason I didn't ever tab out solos, despite hundreds of requests. It goes against EVERYTHING I've learned about music from listening to and playing the Dead.
