Anyone have another take on that cool ass riff Jerry does in this song? Anything else to add to this song? Great tune. I've been preoccupied with the It's All Over Now, Stagger Lee bit from 12-31-78. Good stuff.

Hey Jack,

I've been meaning to sit down with this one. Gotta get more on top of it.

I just flat and finger pick the verse chords with an alternating bass.

I play this lick off the Bb between verses. I think it's pretty close.

E--------------------
B--------------------
G--------3-----------
D-----0h4------------
A--1h3---------------
E--------------------

I do some other stuff over the "Delia..." part but I don't have enough time at the moment.

Hey Jack,

In case you didn't notice I've got a wrong note in the previous post. The 4 on the D should be a 3. Also from "Truckin up to Buffalo" video or whatever it's called Jerry appears to play it as follows, position wise.

E------------
B-------------
G-----------3--
D---------3-----
A--1pu3-5-------
E---------------

Oops.

Bill

I noticed, I just didn't want to say anything. ;)

Actually, I think after you posted this I tried out the lick and it didn't sound right, so I assumed I was deficient in some way. I shall give it a go again.

I am not sure if this is the one you want, but I play the lick after the first line in the first verse something like this (from the Bb like Bill said)

E|------------------
B|------------------
G|------------3-----
D|-------3h5--------
A|--3/5-------------
E|------------------

This may not be the right place to ask, but how do I play the tab on the computer?

I'm gonna throw in some more of this one in small bites. It's really not one of my stronger tunes, but I may be able to shed some light. Or NOT.

From the top:

a ona-a and a two-a... (Note: Please ignore fleeting Lawrence Welk moment)

-----------F-----C-----Bb----F-----Bb--

E|------------------------
B|-------------6-----5-----3-----1------3-------
G|-----------5-----5-----3-----2------3---3----------3
D|-------------7-----5-----3-----3---3---3----------3
A|-----5-7-8-----7-----5-----3-----1-------1-1pu3-5-
E|---8---------------------------------1-----

---F-----C-----Bb----F-----Bb--

G|---5-----5-----3-----2------3---3---3-----
D|-----7-----5-----3-----3---3---3---3---3-

G|---5-----5-----3-----2------3---3---
D|-----7-----5-----3-----3---3---3----
A|-8-----7-----5-----3-----1-------1--
E|-----------------------------1------
Try that out Jack. I'll be back for more later.

Here's the way I hear the very next portion

--Bb|A|G#|G-------------------A

E|--------------------------------------------------
B|----------------------------------2------2-2
G|-------------4---------4--------2---2----2-2-
D|-----------5----5----5----5----2---2----2--2-
A|-1-0-----5----5----5----5----0--------0----0-
E|-----4-3----3----3----3----------0----------

----A

E|-----------------------------------
B|-------------------------------------
G|--------0----------2------2---
D|---1pu2---1po0-----2------2-----
A|---------------3h4---3h4--0--
E|----------------------------------

On the first part you could just repeat the G pattern over the A chord (2 frets up) instead of dropping back to the open A. Note that with the open A you have the three note bass line.

po= pull off
pu= pull up

The next part is a bit more tricky. especially for me as I don't figure myself much of a finger picker.

Well here's the rest, finally. I listened to JG solo 4/10/82 for this. Early show. (Thanks Jack)

If you aren't familiar with fingerpicking style I suggest playing the bass line by itself, until you're about to lose your mind and don't have to think about it. The earlier part above is probably easier, say the A, Bb or G portion.
