So after playing this song for about 15 years, I just learned a very cool nuance I never knew before....i.e. I was playing it wrong all these years.
The change is over the third line in the verse over the words "was it you I heard singing"---that G is really a C over a G (C/G) as I've indicated below.
Try it and see what you think. NOTE--the way you voice the chord will effect it sounding right or not.

Sorry, but I can never get chords I paste to line-up right when I copy them. :?

This must be heaven, tonight I cross the line.
A A C Bm
You must be the angel, I thought I might never find.
E A G/C F#m Bm
Was it you I heard singing, Oh while I was chasin' dreams.
F#m Bm F#m Bm
Driven by the wind, like the dust that blows around,
A G D A G D
And the rain fallin' down, but I never know.

Been a couple years since we've had this one in rotation.

Are you saying C/G or G(sus4)/C? The sus4 sounds good to me in the indicated spot, but some of these other chords are not ringing a bell for me... and I've got G or G/B where Bm is indicated in the "while I was chasing dreams" parts.

I also would call the Bb at the end of the 1st line of verse (or "Bb #11" as it is called in the deadstein version) a Bb(add11): 1-3-5-11

I tried G sus/G and it sounded ok but it's not as accurate ( I think) as an actual C/G---the voicing of the C is pretty important.

I settled on a G in my left hand and a C chord voiced ECGE in ascending order( otherwise known by theory freaks as a C 6-3) and it sounds very correct in a way that gives you that nuance that isn't there with a straight G chord. Just one of those little things that I love about GD songs, you know.

I think that B minor seems right to folks because that's how it is in Sailor, but in Saint, they go back and forth between the F#min and G/B as you play it.

Now that I see how to line it up, I'm gonna change what i think needs changed and repost in a minute. MT

I tried every combo I could think of and thought I finally had it, but I guess I didn't. :?
Thanks for doing that SS....I'm not even gonna ask how you did it at this point.

So, thoughts on those changes??

It's very simple just highlight and click code

I've never worked up that song fully 100% stage ready but I do recall adding an A7 after the opening A and doing an G#6 in place of your Bb.

I see now that the G#6 is just an addition of an A# away from = Bbadd11 that TS suggests.

Otherwise I think it's very good! Only gave it a few go-arounds last night, though.

Thanks for the compu-tutorial...but, SS I think I'm a lost cause. I had a computer at work for 5 years I never turned on, bought a home pc in 2001 and am still on $5 a month dial-up. The only reason I know how to email is I was forced to learn due to work. I banged out every cxollege paper on a 1923 Royal that weighed 40 lbs. FWIW, I have never owned a cell phone. Yes, I am a Dinosaur....and, not a very techno-savy one either.

Thanks for the help...maybe I'll try it again when I feel like frustrating myself again.

After digging through Lost Sailor, we disagree with this part:
Code: Select all
                   A G/C F#m G/B Bb(Riff) A G/C F#m G/B
No time to lose.
It's the same walk down in Lost Sailor:
A / | A/G (or G6 double if you prefer) / | F#m / | Gmaj7 /

To my ears that hook back to Sailor changes the mood the BAM! right back into Saint.

Otherwise, OUTSTANDING!
