I was listening to Dozin at the Knick and thinking of Bobby's intro and by ear (CD is at work) this is what I'm hearing and wondering other people's thoughts...

Hey Strummin'

I see this has been out there for a while, but I have been listening to Dozin' recently and stumbled upon your post yesterday. Last night, my daughter (who has a great ear, but doesn't know much about guitar) and I (who doesn't have a great ear, and knows a little about guitar) gave this a shot. We got a somewhat different answer, although obviously similar. Please be patient, this is my first attempt at such a thing:

- - - - - - - - - 3 3 - 3 - - - - - - - - 3 3 - -3- - 7p6h7-
- - 3 5p3 - - - 0 0 - 0 - - 3 5p3 - - 0 0 - -0 - - - - - - -
- 4 - - - 4 - 0 - - 0 - - - 4 - - - - -0 - - -0 - - - - - - - -
5 - - - - - - - - - - - - - 5 - - - - 5 - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

We argued over the last thing, we couldn't decide if it was the pull and hammer I wrote above, or a pre-bend on six/release/re-bend. I didn't know how to write the tab for the pre-bend, so I wrote the pull and hammer. Thoughts and comments appreciated.

I was listening to Dozin' today, and I hear Bobby's intro like this:

E|-------------3------------------------------3--------------
B|----------3-----3-----------------------3------------------
G|-----4h5----------4--------------4h5-----------4-----------
D|--5----------------------------5-------------------5-------
A|-------------------------------------------------------------
E|-------------------------------------------------------------

Mick, sorry I missed your post! Nice! Will try that tonight!

Gotcha, Strummin. I was really only talking about the stuff leading up to Bobby's first vocal. About fiften seconds. Are you talking about what he's playing under that first verse, before the rest of the boys join in?

I'll give it another listen - I just wasn't hearing that E->D pull-off that was shown on the B string. I heard a hammer-on earlier and then a G being played on the high E string before Bobby came back down. But then again, it took me a while before I caught on to the variation in the descending notes, so you never know!

I had really only shown the main melodic notes, I didn't address the rhythmic stuff like Mick did. So here's my attempt at a fuller transcription:

E|-------------3-------------3--3-----3--
B|----------3-----3----------3--3-----3--
G|-----4h5-----------4-------------------
D|--5---------------------5--------5-----
A|---------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------

E|-------------3-------------3--3--------------3--3----7--3
B|----------3----------------3--3-----3--3-----3--5----8--3
G|-----4h5--------4-------------------4--4-----5--5----7---
D|--5----------------5----5--------5--------5--------------
A|---------------------------------------------------------
E|---------------------------------------------------------

E|-------------3---------
B|----------3------------
G|-----4h5--------4------
D|--5----------------5---
A|-----------------------
E|-----------------------

Having tried Mick's version, I think that the G&D I played together as:

--3--3
--3--3
------
------
------
------

Also sounds good as the G&B he had:

--3--3
--0--0
------
------
------
------

On the D-form G chord shown towards the end of the second line, I think Bobby uses the whammy bar, but I could be wrong. The last chord of that line might even be hit twice before the third line begins.

Here's a clip, let me know what you think [I couldn't figure out how to get it to open in another window, so you may want to right-click]:

Hey, this one came back alive after a while! I haven't fooled with this tune in probably a year, but now I will just to hear what the D-G sounds like compared to the B-G I was playing. The idea in my head sounds good, but I'd like to hear it. Good to see that one of my first attempts at tabbing something by ear wasn't completely dorked up!
