Dude, that's just wrong. The chorus ending and verse ending is the different. See examples from above. Either will work depending how you count it:

Let me know!

Yeah I'm going down the
F
line (going down the line). Going down the
C----------------Am <------- I dont hear the Minor ,Dave
line, (down the line)
Uh huh huh now,
C-------A7--D7---G7--C
beat it on down the line
Well in the year since I have posted this -
1) no minors in the tune ( sorry deadstein )
2) many ways to do it - Tiger/Six got it close and thats what we have been doing since ...
great tune thanks for all the help !
:D

*****I tried the A major instead of the Am and it just does not sound quite right either (try the A with no third tone maybe?)......geez for a 2:47 song it sure causes alot of confusion!

In summation, the song has 2 watch-outs:
1 - the verse ending is not equal to the chorus ending
2 - when singing, the first change to the F holds for half a bar | during the solo it holds for a full bar

On the word " Beat" its the D7 ......
The A where the Am is and try no return to the C ....
I have a guitar here in the office....
maybe I will do a pick slide there to cover up what I'm doing ....

It's a disservice to the forum when folks suggest chords that are just wrong when the correct chords are posted above.

My intent was not to be mean or harsh.

There is no Am - it's A. Common mistake that on many tab sites. It creates a V->I resolution to the D that comes next.

Yes, I was wrong! It is an A major not minor. Since we always played it together as an Am it all sounded ok as a band, but I do concede that the A major is the right chord for the song.

Thank you for showing me the light, mk and ssix

I always liked the different beginnings too: 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 or whatever amount of times on the C chord before breaking into the verse "well this job I got..."

You could always do like the GD and make up your own version:
Sounds like the original is possibly played in the open A position (it tunes up to Bb, but his hand looks like A... He tunes down half step!... like Hendrix maaaan).

Wow, I'd never heard Jesse Fuller's original version until finding this helpful thread. The original is so excellent!

Maybe even a D7 instead of D on the last "BIODTL" of the chorus?
Goes to the G nicely.
Just a thought
