I love that mic and I love that speaker and I love that particular mic placement where the mic's diaphragm is very near the edge of the voice coil (which coincides with the edge of the dustcap) but just outside of it. That's my favorite point to place a mic capsule on a JBL, just enough metal cap, just enough paper, and not entirely in the "beam of death". I find that when you place a mic like that on a JBL, it comes out of the PA sounding nearly exactly like a JBL.

But I digress.... Where are Jerry's Twins??????
First thing I thought of, Brad. I spend about 2 mins setting up my e609 and listening and it's always a few centimeteres from that point. Just out touching the dustcap with the outer edge.

Here's a pic of the rig from backstage- from the booklet with "The Closing of Winterland".

Waldo question time.... Do you think is the mystery network box that Dennis Leonard was talking about, tucked into the amp case between the Twins?

no, i believe that box in there is the tuner switcher like the one in the perlstein photo, but smaller and not taped to the side of the cabinet. i believe under it inbetween it and the reverb pan is the tuner. the two cables on top of the cabinet are one mono and one stereo, with the stereo unplugged from the netwrok box and the mono unplugged from the tuner switcher. the network box would still be wired to the effects that are out front which you can see in the entire picture this scan is from.

peace,
waldo
