here's how i do it...

-----------5-----------|
-----------5-----------|
-----------------------|
-2---------------------|
-0--0-3-4~---3h4-0-----|
-------------------2-0-| repeat

here's the other cool lick in the song. it's essentially the same lick as used in row jimmy. probably a sort of classic turnaround like used in blues.

----------------------|
----------------------|
----------------------|
-1h2-1-0-----------2--|
---------2/4-0-----0--|
---------------2-0----|

On the album the riff seems to be played much higher up the neck.
And seems to start with a released bend .....
I have been trying it out of the 12th fret A barre. Sorta sounds like something ...
Where do guys play it ?
Vid on you tube had Jerry up @ 5th fret or so .....
You guys got anything for me ?

This is one of Jer's "Pedal Steel lick on guitar" moments.
I usually play it Steel myself, with MuIII of course.
Strings 5 and 6 with the A and B pedals.

Sorry Man... that was for anyone playing it on thier Pedal Steel (I know there's at least one other Pedal player on this board).
The A,B,and C, pedals, as they're generally called, were what Jerry G used most on his Pedal Steel.
The album intro for CFJ that you mentioned mimicks a basic Pedal Steel lick done with the A and B pedals.
I hear alot of Jerry G guitar solos that incorporate Pedal Steel style licks (banjo licks too)... but that's just me. Sugar Mags comes to mind.

You hear alot of country guitarists pull slide tricks! 2 examples are the run from the minor 3rd to major 3rd and of cours the bend from the 2 to the major 3 at the song ending!
