Picking five of all time out of all the genres is too hard for me. So I'm going to be different and name five great acoustic guitar albums that I love.

Blues Singer - Buddy Guy
Bert Jansch - Bert Jansch
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
You Were There For Me - Peter Rowan and Tony Rice
Harvest Moon - Neil Young

Oh man. I forgot about Nick Drake. I love that guy. Terrible ending for him though...only 3 albums back in the early 70's, and the fella's record company is still making his cd's. So much talent.

Big Pink is by The Band.

Blood on the tracks is Bob Dylan.

English settlement is XTC.

Babylon by bus is Bob Marley.

Who is live at the leads. (who's on first.)

One more for the road I believe is Toots Thielemans.

Wheels of fire is Cream.

Sorry, I was in a hurry and wanted to jot down some picks. One More for the Road is actually Lynyrd Skynyrd and while many abhor them, I think they were incredible. I am, of course, referring to their original incarnation. I also left off jazz (on purpose), because it deserves its own 5 album list, along with Bluegrass, country, folk, punk, etc.

And I would put his debut album Five Leaves Left as one of the great debut albums by a solo artist. I don't like the second album, production is too rich - too much trying to be like Randy Newman's first album. He was an incredible guitarist, he used all five fingers on his right hand had a classical approach to picking, used offbeat jazz timings, weird chords but more or less played the blues in a folky way. Plus his tunings would leave Joni scratching her head! I'd put him equal with Bert Jansch - "the Hendrix of acoustic guitar" to quote Neil Young.

My favourite Grateful Dead album is American Beauty, keeping to a similar ilk I would put Jackson Browne's Late For The Sky and Hollywood Town Hall by the Jayhawks up there as well.

I think the Bands second album is much better than Big Pink.

For live albums how about BB King live at Cook County Jail? Class album. It's easy these days to forget how important "the chairman of the board" was.

I am going to have to step up and give Jerry some props for the first JGB double live disc. Some of his best singing and playing are all over those discs, Tangled Up.., Senor, Dear Prudence, just plain nasty goodness. As far as Hip Hop albums, NaS "Illmatic" is about as good as one can go for the East Coast sound. Maybe the all time best live CD is the original "Friday Night In San Francisco" with Al DiMeola, Paco De Lucia, and the incomparable John McGlaughlin. Just don't try and play guitar after you listen to it as you will realize just how much you suck.
