I've had this bass project in the planning stages for a few months now, and took a huge step forward yesterday. I've been keeping it well under wraps - even the band doesn't know - but maybe now's the time to reveal my plans.

I'll give you two hints:

HA! True, true. Not many non-garcia instrument homages around here.

But I'm doing my best. My Jackson is setup like Bobby's "No Fun" guitar:

What a great project. I'll keep an eye peeled for more photo references for the paint job. You have someone lined up to do that, or going to try yourself?

Me? I can't even write my own name legibly. My mom is a great painter, she's been recruited for the task. Any and all pictures would be really helpful! Here are all the ones I've gathered so far:

Also Live at the Family Dog has some good shots, I'll send that to her. Not sure about Festival Express, I'm working on borrowing a copy of it.

The last thing I have to figure out is which machinist I'll have make the custom tailpiece. It almost looks like I could do it myself with handtools if I could get my hands on the metal stock. What do you think it is made of, brass?

Probably chrome-plated brass, but who knows it could be titanium alloy carved from the nose cone of an SR-71 spy plane...

I need a master thread for this bass... other than the now-complete inlay thread:
http://www.rukind.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 49&p=75466
and hopefully to be revisited electronics thread:
http://www.rukind.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... 559#p71702
so I'll bring this old thread back to life and update it as progress is made.

D'oh! My file's too big... will update from home. Sorry for the tease...

Small progress but a big step.

Next is grain filler, cherry red stain, routing for second pickup, drilling for extra knobs, and making pickguard and backplate. Then it comes back and gets a bridge.
