So, I just got an iPod Touch. Very cool. I was uploading some of my live dead stuff and realized it loaded up with a blank spot in cd art. Very unattractive, since one of the coolest features of the touch is being able to browse by flicking through your cd covers.

Anyways, I decided to start making some art for my live shows. My first attempt is here. It's 3-24-73. Comments and suggestions would be a big help. (Keep in mind, my photoshop skills are meager at best.)

Thanks a bunch!

*edit* Fixed the typo. Also changed the font on the location to a Comic Sans. Seems a bit more legible at smaller sizes.

Nice, but you may be re-inventing the wheel. There is a lot of artwork out on the web you can grab.

Some here:

Personally, I don't load any art at all onto my iPod; I prefer ot use all available space for music. :-)

How do you load pics by album? I can only see how to do it song by song.

Um... sorry, no idea. I think you have to have one of the "photo" or "video" models?

Well, I tag my live shows as albums with the date as the album title. That way, I can just go into itunes and grab the whole group of songs in the album, right click and say get info, then on the right under album art, I add my pic.

I'm essentially doing it one song at a time, but I'm selecting all the songs and doing it at once. So it's essentially adding album art to the whole album.

I'm not sure if that was explained terribly well.

As far as re-inventing the wheel. Yeah, I am. But I get bored and work and I like to noodle in photoshop. Something very rewarding about seeing my own art on my ipod as album covers. :)

Okay, your explanation helped me to understand the concept.

Could you give me step by step, please?

Adding artwork to songs
Most of the music you buy from the iTunes Music Store comes with its own artwork. You can also add artwork to songs in your library.

You can add any type of image file that can be read by QuickTime (for example, BMP, JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, or Photoshop).

Note: You can't add artwork to WAV files. To add artwork to a song saved as WAV, convert the song to another format and then add the artwork.

To add artwork to one song, click the "Show or hide song artwork and video viewer" button in the lower-left corner of the iTunes window, then select the song that you want to add artwork to in your library or a playlist. Drag a still image file to the artwork box. (You can also copy and paste the image.)
To add artwork to each song in your library or a playlist, select a song in the list and choose File > Get Info. In the song artwork and video viewer, click Add to add art to the current song (or drag the art file from your desktop to the artwork box), then click Next to add art to the next song in the list, and so on.
To add more than one piece of art to a song, drag more than one image to the same artwork box.
To add the same artwork to multiple songs, press the Control key and click each song you want to add art to, then choose File > Get Info. Drag the artwork that you want to add to each of the selected songs from your desktop to the artwork box.

The image you added appears when the song is selected or playing. You can also click the artwork to see it larger and in its own window.

The above explanation is pretty much on the money.

Now go forth, and add art to your dead.

Thank you! I see there is no good way to do it by album, huh?

It is all in the itunes help. My last post was a cut-and-paste from there. There is more.

If there isn't already existing album art for iTunes to grab from its online store, then no. Gotta go about it the long way.
