Jerry had his 65 twin modified to send just the signal to a pretty powerful solid state amp. The amp alone will give you a very similar tone, but I wouldn't expect to get the bite that Jerry got. I set mine, volume 3, treb 4, mid 7, bass 3, reverb 3 1/2. I mic it if I need it louder for anything other than practice. A mighty nice amp in my opinion.

Are you sure JG played a 65?

Everything I've read about his set-up, until they went to digi :(, was one blackface 65 and one silver face 65 for back-up. They were run into a MacIntosh 2300 I believe and then to his speaker cab. The info is on dozin.com

You've got alot of reading to do...

No such thing as a 65 SF.

The Silverface was his main and the blackface was his backup

He never went "digi" as opposed to no longer analogue.
He had a separate rigs one w/MIDI

He didn't always run into a Mac.
The 2300 wasn't the only mac he used.

Enlighten me. Where are you getting your info? In vids you can clearly see Jerry plugged into a blackface 65' twin with a silver face sitting idle next to it in mounted in a plywood box. I know he used several different set-ups of effects and guitars over the years, but for the most part ran the same amp set-up for most of his career. As far as when I said digi, I meant when the sound board went from analog to digi, Jerry no longer used a speaker cab that was mic'd but a solid state head that was run directly to the board. This was what, 93 -94?

On a re-check of Dozin.com I see that they list the silver face as his primary. The picture is from sometime in the 80's. I have seen him plugged into the black face more than the silver face though personally and in videos. Perhaps he switched his primary at some point. Thanks for pointing it out. I'd still like to know where I could read more though. Any suggestions?

He didn't use a solid state head he used a Trio by GrooveTubes.

Can't say for sure what ya saw in vids maybe new shells or eyes playing tricks or the silverface was being repaired or he had a back-up plug into the BF but using the SF???

As far as resources:
on line: here, yahoo gearheads

A very easy solution without doing any mods to the amp (though they are certainly worth the effort) is to buy a Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive pedal.

I have had major success working that Jerry Fender bite with that pedal in combo with my reissue Twin. Really a very musical drive pedal.
