I have been running an SMS>a Tubeworks MV962>SSP 2x12 w/ Weber Neos for almost 3 yrs now. Finally swapped a vintage E120 and an E120 w/ a Hemp recone in for the Webers and YOWSA! No-I am not buying a MAC! to me the speakers are so critical. Just a better sound all around. The Webers are very focused on the high end. They sound much better after a significant break in period. Just think the JBL's are sweeter!

Also met Brad Sarno hear in NW burbs of Chicago a few weeks back and scored an Earth Drive as well. Love it for both the Jerry stuff ( i play a Res. Jerry Inspired guitar w/ OBEL and Waldo Buffer) and w/ my ASAT, Strat or Les Paul playing BLUES!

Have a great day,

I swapped a K-120 for my neo in my 1x12 and it's sounds night and day better. I'm doing a 2x12 with K-120's when I get my Shakedown amp.

Trust me. The Mcinosh will also be just as amazing. You will say the same thing!

not sure about that, i hear these days a Carvin, MosValve or Rocktron can do what a Mcintosh can.

I can only vouch as I have a Rocktron and although nice, it cannot hold a candle to my MC50. The organic sound coming from the MC50 is much nicer to the ear than the Rocktron.

I own a Carvin DCM200L (I think you may know that Waldo?? :-) ) and I love it!!! I also own an MC50, and have had it for about two months now. The Carvin is very clean and precise. The Mc50 actually colors the tone a bit, and provides a smoother (still very responsive), splattier, organic tone that I prefer now.

Props to Carvin though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've owned or own 2 of those 3, as well as a McI, and have heard the 3rd. The Carvin is different from the other 2 in design and sound. Have you played through one?

This has turned into somewhat of a comical thread IMHO, so I might as well through the QSC PLX into the mix since it hasn't been mentioned. Awesome amps for just about anything. I still have my QSC PLX 1202 as a backup.
That said, nothing sounds as good (to me) as the McIntosh!
And yea, big difference between E120 and Weber NEO.
The Beyma Liberty 8 is essentially a E120.
Also, the Eminence Commonwealth Patriot is very close.

One man's comical is another man's informative.

I went from a Weber Neo to an E120 (sold the Neo; now I'm running into a pair of 1X12s, one with an E120, the other with a K120).

I also went from a Rocktron to a Carvin to a McI (sold the Rocktron; the Carvin ain't going nowhere!).

The distances between the Neo and E120, and between the Rocktron and Carvin, are measured in miles.

The distance between the Carvin and the McI is measured in yards.

I hope no one misrepresents the above as Jon S. says a Carvin is the same as a McI. That would be comical. But you can say Jon S. says the Carvin sounds very good for Jerry tones. If you're running an SMS, FYD, or tapped TR into a DCM200L into one or more JBLs and you can't sound like Jerry, brother, it ain't the power amp.

That's my position - one others share - and I'm stickin' with it.

I play through 2 E-120's, big part of the Jerry Tone. I'm also running an SMS through a Carvin DCM200L, and I agree with, it's not a McIntosh, but it's also not a QSC, either. The Carvin is designed to be a guitar amp, and sounds fantastic, especially paired with the SMS. I had an mv-962, the Carvin blows it away. I'm sure when I finally get a McIntosh, I'll love it. But, I'm in no hurry, my rig as it is now is very inspiring to play through, very loud, and very Jerry!

I went from the Neos to the Commonwealths to the E120 ....
Gotta check all avenues before deciding what is the right road to take I guess ..... sold the Neo's after a few years of playing them - the JBL's sound good - and still play the Commonwealths
A Mac is def in the future somewhere .... but for now the Mosvalve sounds great !

Much prefer the sound of the K120s to anything else including E120s. To date I prefer the sound of a tube power (Mesa 50/50) amp to any solid state power amp except the mac. BUT.. just got convinced and pulled trigger on the Carvin based on the rave reviews and the fact that it is so small and light I can put it a shallow rack case with my SMS and the whole package will be tiny and so easy to move. For practice and jam sessions it will be great if I like the tone... I ran my ams direct to the board and into a gigantic pair of JBLs for a little open mic feature last week and though the tone was not my usual thing I have to say I actually enjoyed it, so I f I have a great guitar speaker and some Earth Drive in the chain I might be satisfied.
