i can't seem to get a good rhythm down with those bass notes yet, but i definitely prefer to fingerpick; so much that I'd be willing to say I use a pick maybe 5% at most, when I play

Hi all, For those like me interested in Jerry's pick palming technique, here's a good photo. If you zoom into RH, you'll see the pick between the base of his middle finger and index finger. And as Waldo points out, Lay Down Sally is a great reference, he tended to fingerpick the entire tune.

I'd say the 'general' rule here is he did what he felt like doing. I've seen him both finger and flat pick multiple stuff - chorus portion of lead to run for the roses, intro to China Cat, intro to cumberland etc. Different texture, different feel - change was a constant.
