Great thread for the most part. I totally agree that position relative to the bridge is important.
Recently, thanks to Pete B. & my Jazz teacher I started rebuilding my right hand technique. Always trying to work what needs work. I was looking at the Rockpalast video, and noticed that Jerry's thumb when picking was about often about one clock position acute of vertical. This would seem to be contradicted by T14's excellent close up. My take would be that the Master could flat pick, alternate pick, cross pick or any other damn thing. But the sparkly solo's seem to have this steep pick angle.
I've barely touched the surface of this concept of "Angle to the Strings." I watched as many Youtube vids as I could take, and only see this as one of many techniques. It does seem that the earlier you go, the more he uses that.
I'd love to get opinions.
