I've been building a wolf (see Wolf Inspired Build under Guitar Building and Mod), and could use some advice about the electronics. All the info I've gotten on this subject is from Waldos site (which is excellent) but I do have a couple of questions.

1. Is it ok to substitute another vender for the AB pots? Since they no longer exist, all I can do is potentially get used parts, and I'm not sure I feel comfortable with that.

2. Is the 25k CTS a 25k pot? The only CTS value I've found is 250k.

3. Are there any reliable vendors you would recommend?

Thanks for any help,
Mike

Yes, you can certainly substitute another vendor. The old AB pots are really good, but that particular 250k/500k pot is all but impossible to find.

When I recently "Jerrified" my old school Kramer, I looked at a lot of different sources for the pots, and ultimately ended up buying parts from Leo at ScarletFire Guitars (aka, softmachine72 on this forum), as he was a one stop shop for sealed, RV4N (mil spec) pots, including the elusive 250k/500k dual pot. They weren't actual Allen Bradley parts, but they were comparable. He recently posted that he has various new and NOS Wolf/Tiger parts for sale, including the pots you are looking for:

His parts aren't the cheapest, but they are good quality components. I've been happy with the parts I purchased from him, for whatever that's worth.

You can also make your own 250k/500k dual pot for a lot less using the guts of a 250k dual pot and a 500k dual pot, as Waldo shows in this video:

The Alpha setup from the Waldo video works great. I have 3 in service & none have given any issues.

Good Luck

I also did the 250/500 wafer swap. Took about 3 minutes and works fine in my Tiger.

Andrew Olsen (AO Guitars) also has parts. See his Jerification page.

I found pretty much everything for the electronics between these two sites. I compared prices and small bear is definitely way cheaper than stewmac. The parts I couldn't find on smallbear, parts resource had.
