Hendrix and the Dead?

Well, the Dead were sandwiched between Hendrix and the Who at Monterey Pop. Talk about a tough festival slot

Not sure if that's what you were looking for??

Also May 1970 @ Temple Stadium in Philly...The Dead, Jimi Hendrix, and Steve Miller Band. Imagine THAT!

Bob Weir Backstage at Monterey.....actually on the back field behind the venue where they had set up alternate entertainment for the masses....supposedly Paul Simon (I think) was with Weir and Hendrix too.....

For extra credit: And the song they played was???

I believe it used intense amounts of feedback, although Paul was playing an acoustic.

Yes! Bob & Jimi were plugged making feedback together. It's pretty amusing too read McNally's version of Weir making noise with this "unknown young black kid" or something like that.

Anyway, McNally's book is a long but very good read.
