Going OOP (out of phase) does sound like a light phaser is engaged. But it changes tone and decreases volume.

monroe wrote:Good question. I'll certainly find out, as I love the funk! Honestly, the whole reason I had them add the phase switch was so that when I do get to adding a waldo buffer and OBEL, I could use that switch for the OBEL toggle. But maybe I'll have to keep it works as a "funk switch" :)

Jimmy Page uses the phase switch quite often.

The phase switch will lower the output volume and change/thin out the tone. Some of the lows and mids cancel out.
I think of it in a reggae rhythm way, for usefulness.
I will use it clean when i use it, {a srat-ish sound?} {but doesnt sound like a strat.}
I like the switch with the humbuckers but dont use it very often. :-?

I'm in.

DC-400A, 24 fret neck through, flame maple top, clear coat, 5 piece maple/Koa/maple neck shows through body, covered w flamed maple on headstock, 6-inline w locking sperzel tuners, ebony fret board w block abalone inlays, tune-o-matic bridge w string thru body, gold hardware, tweed case.

Picked up local in Philly on craigs list, amazing condition and price - about 6 years old and not played out.

Have been planning on ordering a custom build similar to this, but would take til spring time to save up for it so when an opportunity like this comes up you gotta go for it. Only thing different I would have done was a quilted top, traditional 3+3 headstock and chrome hardware - that being said - here are my initial impressions - just got last night and only played for 2 hr. Oh yeah - and it looks really cool too - not an Alembic/Irwin wolf, but similar intent w respect to presentation so that totally works for me!

Will post pics in a bit.

WOW!!! Compared to my American fender fat strat Texas special, which I have been playing for the last 10 years - this is quite an upgrade. And the fender is a nice guitar - but after playing the carvin I now see what a really really nice guitar is like.

Weight: about 1-2 pounds lighter than that heavy rock of a strat I was strapping on my shoulders - a huge + there.

Balance: way better balanced - my strat was real body heavy - the carvin fits my body like a glove and the balance between body and neck is perfect.

24 fret neck through - this is the main reason I wanted - and now have- a carvin. Huge difference. The neck is thin and no heel or obstruction to easily get to the 24th fret. And everything is shifted what seems to be an inch + or so to the left - so my 14th fret is now where my 12th was - so I don't feel like I am trying to squeeze in notes between the 15th and 19th frets anymore - but rather that they are now at the center of a well expanded entire second octave available for playing.

Sound: big electronics package allows double/single coil selection, +/- phase, active EQ and a massive tone nob that sounds great totally backed off, full on or anywhere along the entire range. I spent 2 hr w my amp on clean just going through a huge tone palette available by just changing the pick up options, tone, volume and EQ settings - I could never get this kind of control from my strat - and w no effects or even messing w my amp yet. And no hummm w exception of bridge pick up set to single coil - the guitar is totally silent all around w respect to humm and interference.

Plays amazing - huge upgrade over what I considered to be a really nice fender - but the carvin is a much better crafted guitar on many different levels. Like night and day.

Will post pics and maybe more review after I really get to play it for a while -
