I scored this piece of koa for a song. It's still pretty fresh (it was a tree only about two months ago). It's 2" thick . . . decisions . .
These are all unwetted, taken in the shade outside, the last one is in the sunlight

I know, too good of a deal to pass up. It's 2" thick and could make a nice solid koa body or 3-4 carved top guitars. I'll a be a while before it's sporting strings.

You can't go wrong with that. It's going to make a great looking guitar whatever you decide.

You probably already know this....

Has it been kiln dried? If so...double awesome!

If not it should dry banded & stickered for 2-3 years. Lots of stickers (spacers). It could also be resawn (consult your builder), and it'll dry faster.

Whatever you do don't build with it wet.

Definitely not, I'll get a moisture meter on it to see where it's at.

. . . and my mother just reached out from the afterlife and popped me in the head for ending a sentence with a proposition :-)

I have a drop dead beautiful PRS Santana Private Stock with a koa top at my shop ... would love to see a koa Wolf or Tiger. Go for it!

Wow, Vic! That's sweet. It's gonna be a while before it's dry enough to use but I've got just about enough for a Tiger and a Wolf. It's good to have some time - I've got milobender resuscitating an old guitar and a Scarlet Fire Wolf on the way. Just what I need - more guitars!!

That is easily the equal of any koa I've ever seen! Nice score.
