I have a Boogie Mark 1 that I purchased in 1993. It has an Electro-Voice EVM-12L speaker in it. When I disconnected the speaker and ran the amp through my 2x12 cabinet with JBL E-120's, it sounded identical. EVM's are great speakers, and may offer a good alternative to the E-120's now that JBL is no longer making recone kits.

I have two EV's. Rated at 300 watts. Very clean.

While I think EV's (I have a few) sound great, they do not sound like any of my JBL's. They are more neutral and don't have that crisp tone on the attack... and are not as bright. They won't get you to pure Jerry tone like a JBL with a 4" voice coil will.

hey are similar in that they both stay relatively clean until pushed... not much speaker cone break up.
