The tech said depending on BWs mood he would get a new set for each sound check and at times then one before each set.
You would think Bob (or Bob's tech) would have bought cases of his favorite strings direct from the manufacturer or wholesaler.
First thing I thought. But I do not doubt what seanc is saying. It's also probable that if Bobby was acting all nuts about his string changes that there were some issues of running out or his crew picking up packs along the way.

But what I really don't get is that when I change strings it takes an hour of playing and then they settle and shine! I don't get a swap after soundcheck unless it's maybe a nasty ass muggy day and the guitars were on stage too early and check took a half dozen sweaty songs for a couple hours to get it right.

I have no clue as to if there was any sort of logic or "magic" behind it. He never really gave me any explanation. He just gave me one of those roll of the eyes with that "if that's what the boss says, that's what the boss gets" sighs.

It could also have been his way of just keeping the tech occupied. I did mention, in jest, as to if he was also looking for a left handed monkey wrench. He looked at me with all seriousness and said "You HAVE one?".. and then we both laughed.

As for why he just did not get them all for free from the maker? No clue, didn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But, knowing how much all of these guys were constantly tweaking everything, it is very possible GHS or who ever sent him a truck load of 9s or 10s and then BW suddenly decides he liked the 11s better..

Hey SSix, are you still using the Presonus Eureka? I'm lookin' at getting one but I don't really understand the preamp part. I have an SMS and don't want (or need ) another preamp.
