So, I just picked this up... I'm wondering if anyone has figured out any nice Jerry tones on this machine. I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

I have one and the best I have done so far is using a blackface amp. When you get it figured out please share!!! I havent been 100% happy with it and that is probably just because I haven't put in the time to dial it in just right.

There are Jerry tones that you can download from the line6 website. I havent done it yet but I did download a gary moore tone and the tone for china grove and they were almost spot on. You can download it through the gearbox tone locker.

The blackface is about as close as I have come as well when using the amp modeling. The best sound overall, however, I got from using the american classic preamp into my power amp. That preamp model hooked up with my MC2300 sounded really good. Much better than the amp models.

But I'm also to sharing some tones if anyone gets one they like. Most of the time I just use the x3 for effects only - models turned off. I bought it before the M13 came out.

the tone also depends on what amp you are using. When I use the x3 I choose to go through my Roland Jazz Chorus 120 because I want a really really clean amp.

Also if anyone has good tones we can email them to each other.

I just wanted to bump this thread to see if anybody had dialed in any tones that they want to share? I've grabbed the few that are available through gearbox.

Haven't gotten any closer. And the longer I have it, the less I like it. Just doesn't compare to the real thing. I really just use if now for practice and rehearsal for the most part. Very rarely do I take it out in a live situation... only if there is absolutely no room for a rig.

Yep, I just sold my Line 6 Pod XT Pro yesterday. Was a very nice rack unit, and I just dropped 200 bucks on a new foot controller for it like 2 months ago. But after a lot, and I mean a lot, of A/B comparison in the same rig with my tube preamp, well it had to go. And, at that point I was only using it in my effects loop, with no active amp or cabinet settings on, only for the various effects combinations and reverb, with a 50/50 wet/dry mix on my effects loop.

Just turning on the unit, with no effects or anything activated, produced a noticible hit on my tone that was a bit more thin with some loss of the low end. So out it went on Craigs list and with the replacement revenue I'm hot on the trail of a Boss OC-2 octave, an MXR-Phase 90 or 100, an MXR-distorton + and maybe an MXR carbon copy delay.

I know there is a ton of information on this thread on older vintage vs reissue pedals, and Boss relative to MXR, so I have some weekend reading to do and some deal searching on eBay and Craigslist.

Any additional insight would be greatly appreciated - these will add to the Q-tron I already have.

Totally agree. I did the same thing - the X3 went into the effects loop of my guitar and I compared that (with all modeling turned off) to the loop bypass and it was really noticeable how much tone loss there was. I've come to think that the X3 is good for rehearsal or practice, or maybe for bands that do hi-gain music.

I will say that when I used the X3 as a preamp to my Mac and a 2x12 I was actually a big happier with it. The mac and live speakers were able to overcome some of what you lose by going straight direct with the unit.
