Jerry Tone on a VOX AD60VTX VALVETRONIX MODELING GUITAR AMP

I have a VOX AD60VTX VALVETRONIX MODELING GUITAR AMP and I am trying to dial in the Jerry Tone. What do you think of this amp? I know its not as good as SMS or TR but it has a fender black face amp model and most of the effects that Jerry Used. The thing that most makes sense for me is getting the clipping and pushed sound on this amp at a low volume. There is a switch on the back that drops the wattage ofthe amp so you can crank the gain and push the tubes at like 1watt or 15 watts so you get the clipping without pissing off the wife. Does anyone have experience with using Amp Modleing and what do you think of it, is it just crap? I can kinda hear the differnece with the pedal models, the Chourus for example sounds much better on my Boss pedal than the amp. With the Blackface model what pedal would you add on this amp to get extra crunch and overdrive like Jerry would have used the MXR for: I have the onboard Tube Overdrive or an external Ibanez Tubescreamer, the plastic one. Check out hte second pic, it have all the options on the amp, if anything looks good for Jerry, let me know, thanks.......

I have the older, smaller version of the amp, and love it for practice, the built in attenuator makes it work all the money. I just use the blackface mod, and actually don't use the built in effect. they are alright for playing around, but overall not that good.

I use a mix of a tubescreamer, and blues overdrive for the jerry sound on it. I can hit it pretty right on.

The only complaints I have about mine, which can be rectified are, the reverb on it sucks. I plan on modding mine to put in an effect loop, then run a hard wire rv-7 in the loop (I A/B compared reverb pedals to a twin with reverb and this is by far the best I could find, no difference in sound that I could tell)

the other, which it looks like your version doesn't have, was it had a metal cheese grater grill on it. which i have since rectified it

And yes the reverb sucks on it really bad, cool to know that pedal will fix it....FYI mine has an FX loop on the back and I have the tube screamer chourus and a delay pedal on there....

mine doesn't have the FX loop, but there is a mod that looks easy enough to do that'll add it in. When I get motivated enough to buy that pedal, I'll do it then.

I just got the AD30Vt a few weeks ago. Still poking around it. Great lil amp tho. I use the 2x12 setting mostly also . I was wondering what some of the other settings you used to get you Jerry tone. Im def. more a Weir guy then Jer. But wouldnt mind hearing how your setting it up. Im sorta new to the electric guitar world. Been playin acoustic for years and my buddy just got me to make the jump.

take a look at this list for the amp models, and use what suits bobby best (it's a google cache because the real one is offline or gone, who who knows what.)

I have a ton of effects in front of it, and finally got a reverb pedal so I am free of their reverb (i hate it) so on the amp now, i bypass the effects, but i usually use the black 2X12 gain variable depending on what i want, volume rolled back on my guitar a bit to work the tube simulation nicely (i was surprised it did that so well). since i have a jerry caster, setup close enough to his guitars, I usually crank the treble, mid is set between noon and three, and have the bass almost the whole way down. I doddle with them all the time though, so that really i just a starting point.

Thanks, Ive not been too impressed with the effects either. But the 2x12 mod and the wattage knob make it worth the price i paid. Its funny, ive had my Treble/mid/Bass set at the same as you described, for the last few days. I bypass the effects and play clean with those settings and im getting pretty close to the Weir 69-70 tone im looking for with my Epip Dot.

USB, I have no useful exp with modeling eqpt, but if the same guideline applies as it does to real amps, try your overdrive pedal (or wahs, filters, octaves) between guitar and amp input, not the fx loop. Chorus, delay & reverb might sound better in the loop. All personal taste of course.

the wattage knob was the main reason i got this. I have a 2.5 year old at home and the darn whiner doesn't like it when i crank my guitar at night. She really needs to toughen up

I did just get a new reverb pedal (the digitech hardwire rv-7) and now that amp sounds awesome. I just want to modify it now to put an effects loop in the amp, and put the reverb there after the pre-amp. however it sounds good as is.
