Creating show posters and other graphic art stuff

Hey everyone!

I'm wondering what people use to create media stuff for gigs and branding.

I was hoping I could use an iPad app but can't seem to get anywhere on that one. I'm sure there are software programs you can buy?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

you can certainly use raster-graphics like Photoshop, but my preference is for Illustrator, and other vector-based graphics programs... heard good things about this freeware knockoff although I've never properly explored it: http://inkscape.org/

Photoshop.

Illustrator is good too, but I'm just not as used to it as Photoshop.

There is a shareware version (or at least there used to be) called Gimp. I just didn't like its layout - maybe I was too set in my Photoshop ways...

Thanks guys!

Mike, I always thought and still think the Fennario posters are bordering on cosmic.

Super electrified graphics, real nice.

I'm going to look into Photoshop

They'll give you a 30 day free trial that gives you the full version without watermarks or other annoyances. I remember the "you suck at photoshop" tutorials on YouTube as being pretty good.

I have been using Inkscape for a while now. It's pretty easy to use and is very good being free.

We had Jon Griffin do ours. He does posters for a ton of bands and festivals across the country. Then I just use Gimp to add show information.
