Why won't my brain figure this out? :?

Can somebody help me figure out the rhythm guitar on this Gram Parsons and Fallen Angels Classic (Six Days on the Road)?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yr4vRAByqlk

It should be very easy, but I just can't get it right. It's a basic blues rock riff like you might here on Big Railroad Blues or something. But I just can't get it for whatever reason ...

Any help would be appreciated.

fwiw, This is one of a million spin offs from Johnny B. Goode.
When I used to practice this lick when I was a little kid, my sister called it "The Pinky Song".
In the key of A, use your pointer finger to cover the A-chord, and use your pinky (or Ring finger if it feels better to you) to toggle-on/off the the rhythm note, playing mostly 2 or three strings like the open A-5th string, the 4th string which is getting the pinky or ring hammer on, and maybe the 3rd string too.
Work the 3 chords with the open root note (string 5-A / 4-D / 6-E), and one string above the root using the pinky or ring finger hammer-on/off.
There appears to be pages and pages of folks playing Six Days on YouTube.
Watch their fingers.
Check for some Chuck Berry lessons, too.
Hope this helps,
