Phil plays 5th and 4ths all the time, with 3rds up high. They're well placed, though. He also used to have a major parametric EQ or SOMETHING to give him clarity in the mid range, but BOOM in the low.

Every 6 string I have come accross or played has been BEADGC.
It makes the most sense in terms of keeping the intervals the same up and down the fretboard. Also, chords using the c string or played up high, sound to my ears pretty close to a nice warm guitar.

On more than one night, I'd start up Jack Straw. The E-> Esus intro sounds just like a 335. Everybody pretty much just assumed the rhythm player started it up and went along with it.
