A place to talk about the music of the Grateful Dead

Ok, Deadheads and other music fans have suffered long enough. The intonation problems in the guitars and vocals are a blight on an otherwise stellar work.

Why the band and Steve Barncard accepted this shoddiness is a mystery to me.

So, using available digital tools, why not issue an "In Tune American Beauty?"

RU Kidding? Its probably the best studio recording of the band. Not to mention a true classic. Instead of messing with that, lets see you churn out something better today.

I love the band and record more than anything, just like the rest of us. In my cranky old age, I just wish Jerry'd tuned his damn Strat for the beginning of "Candyman." And that Bobby tuned his 335 for Sugar Mags. Etc.

Bob did 2 tracks of electric rhythm on Suger Mag. 1 is dry while the other is played through a Hammond Leslie. He did the same thing on Casey Jones on Workingman's. He actually did quite a good job doubling himself. When I do my note for note show of both those records I have 2 guys playing each part, 1 dry and 1 through a leslie. Jerry's gtr is in tune fine on Candyman. He just pulls certain notes here and there. BTW, listen with headphones to the beginning and you can hear a dog barking on the left side that must have been in the studio. Yes, we do that in my show too!

As far as banging stuff back in way! It's perfect imperfection. Just like life.

Please come see my show at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square NYC Friday 6/24.

eh, i don't find it annoying, I like that the album is kind of loose so I think it works - besides, they issued it that way.. if I was the artist I'd hate anyone tinkering with the finished product

What did they do to Europe '72?

I've never had any problems with American Beauty. I think the whole album sounds just perfect.

All the, or at least most of the vocals were resung in the studio in post production. Listen with headphones and you can hear the bleed from the original vocals way in the background.
