Nope - all in black tie.

It was a great night, and I sorta owe you folks some debt of thanks for being able to go... Couldn't have done it if I hadn't learned so much from you folks here.

Here's how I scored the ticket:

Here are pics and a couple of shaky vids (partials):

I don't do the youtube thing yet, so if anybody wants to post the Eyes jam or the Dancin openers, feel free.

Yup - had the LP with him but never picked it up. Also played through an old Fender - couldn't see exactly which model tho. No Soldanos anywhere to be seen.

We may get some Jerry tones outta the big guy yet...

that is pretty cool to hear! maybe he is hearing and listening to some of the deadheads reservations on his approach to the music. just might make me take a second look after all.

thanks for the pics and vids!

I said in the "advice for Warren" thread that he sounded thin... but that's not quite right. He was just Strat-afied. Compared to his sound w/GM or ABB, much thinner though. I think this tour could shape up to be really good. They were definitely firing on all cylinders at the Ball. One other thing... the jamming between songs was great. All the songs jammed into each other and hit some cool spaces, with the exception of UJB ending with a very well-harmonized "la-da-da-da-di-da" ending on that D6 or whatever it is on the studio cut, and the normal end to Box O' then a prompt launch into The Wheel, which started out with a meandering jam very reminiscent of the types P&F have started sets with.

And, I don't know if he did this at State College, but Warren is singing a lot of Jerry's lead vocals, like on Touch. He's sort a mixture of Jerry and Brent in timbre. Do a YouTube search on "mid-atlantic midatlantic ball" and there's a couple of other vids posted... Sounds pretty good, no?

IMHO, from what I heard at the Ball... they've got the option to become a totally viable full-time band again if they want. (Of course, why wouldn't they? But I mean in the sense of really sounding like the Dead - I guess figuratively and literally. ) Then again, they all have their own projects. Should be interesting to keep an eye on...

Thanks??? Waldo, I can assure you it was absolutely MY PLEASURE!

Uncle John's Band sounds better in that one little clip than anything Phil or Weir has done with their own bands. Nice job by Haynes on the Touch of Grey vocals. These shows are gonna smoke! Wait until they break out The Eleven with Kreutzmann and Hart back together, jeeze!

After watching some of the Penn State vids, they've changed the vox. They appear to be having Warren basically sitting in for the Jerry spot... and it works! Singing the Jerry lines (I think Warren's the only tenor in the group, though Chementi may have that range too but he doesn't sing so much), playing the Strat/Fender amp combo... Very good stuff should come out of this tour!

We may be seeing a rebirth of the Dead here...

Man, I am pumped.
