Sorry for dragging up an old thread, guys!

I see .02uF caps that say 100V, 500V, ect.... What is the difference and I how do I know which one's to get? I ordered some and got the 100V versions.

you'll should only need something more then the 9 volts the preamp uses. 50, 100, 200, 500, or even 1kv all will work. .022uF will work also. oh and jerry used ceramic caps. that should help you out.

I wish people would use existing threads far more often than they do. Way better than creating multiples of the same conversation. Well done!

here is a good example of jerry using both extremes of his middle pickup tone control with and without effects.

3:53 as we rise and fall
you can see jerry turn on the effects loop with a Boss Overdrive(yellow box 2nd in rack after the OC2, can be either an OD1 or OD2 and possibly an SD1) i hear him flip the tone control around 4:23'ish also, but don't see him do it.

5:43 just before this bobby flags the change in course and jerry flips off the effects loop. he also flips the tone control back to clean here, but again it is not viewable.

BUT at 5:58 when still clean and no effects, Jerry turns the Tone Control all the way off and at 7:14 turns it all the way back on. at that 7:14 point when he goes from that horn'ish tone to the clean tone we all love, it is very audible and you can visually see him using it.

Jerry used this effect more then people would like to think, and it is part of his sound for all you cats after that jerry tone!

peace,

Gotta love visual evidence. Great find.

(Didn't love his clean tone with the tone rolled back, though!)

I tried my buddy's Tiger and Rosebud replica guitars the other day and found the tone knobs not to be fully working in a "normal" way- apparently Garcia's preference.
Has anyone figured out how successfully mod this type of tone circuit to obtain a better sweep in order to be more usable for cutting a little bit of treble (as opposed to simply on/off) like the tone knobs of a strat?
