How long do you wait on C before changing chords in this solo? It's not quite like the verses. The Dead never seemed to screw it up so there must be a set number of measures...

That's wrong. Actually most of it is either the same here or more wrong.

The instrumental holds the C then to the F then to the G and some later versions have it walk up to the G.

Ok, now I get it. It's the "3 during the verses" part that's been confusing me.... I was considering the C CmM7 Dm7 [something]/G part to be a separate entity rather than the 3rd phrase of the verses, and each phrase to be 2 measures even though by my count the snare only hits on beat 3.

So you hang on C during the solos for either 4, 8, or 16 measures depending on how you want to count it. I can't really explain it very well but I think I've got it. Thanks!

its 4 verse length runs on C then 2 on F then 2 on G... if that helps

The Intro, the short leads after the chorus and the lead at the end are all what you need to look at? All of them have a rhythmic bond, that you can count in two, it is in cut time; 1 2 1 2 1 2 1 2, ect. ect. yes its is C16,X, F8,X, and G,8X, repeat. note the last two bars of G that transition in to the chorus are, Bb,F/G/C. well thats my take on it. he he
