Ive heard Jerry employ this a few times on 77 Sugarees and it sounds very banjo like, maybe its a banjo pattern?

Yeah - that's nice. Sounds like he's doing a banjo type 'roll' with barre B to E. I can sort of get it with thumb and first finger - roll the D, G and B strings and hammer down the B on 9th fret and then move to E and again hammer the B string on the 10th fret.
