General Jerry OD?

Looking to for the pedal the can cover they widest range of Jerry. MXR Distortion+ or Boss OD-1?
Anyone with experience please chime in!

I have used both and in my opinion the boss wont do it. I have the mxr distortion + (vintage) and dont use it anymore but it may be what you are looking for.

I now use a fulltone OCD.

I like the Boss OD-2R or the Distortion +. Used both with good results. OD-1, not so much

I've bounced around with different distortion pedals and always come back to my vintage MXR Distortion+.

I have a few on my board for a range of options...

I have the OD-2 for a 90's distortion tone, I also have the 3 knob tube screamer for some grit. If I want that 85-87 screaming distortion tone I go with the Tube Screamer-MXR combo.

So i got my mxr today. Plugged it in and was getting buzzing from my amp. That was using right angle plugs coming from the pedal out to the amp and a mogami gold going into the pedal from the guitar. When i switch.them around the buzzing stops. Do you guys think there is a problem with the output jack like a bad ground? When its working the thing is incredible! I tried 2 different cables so i am not sure what is up

What I have noticed is that without a mcintosh amp, the overdrive pedals will never really "sing". I have been through so many pedals trying to nail that jerry OD and got close but no cigar. Once the mcintosh was hooked up and dialed in and turned down my guitar tone knob....srceaming hot od with all these wonderful harmonics and overtones! night and day difference to me.

I use the OD-1 and get excellent late 80s through 90s Jerry, especially when blended with the OD-2. But the OD-1 is too expensive and difficult to find. I had to make one. The Dist + is great for mid 70s to late 80s stuff. The TS-9 and 808 Tube Screamer is a little bit thin sounding without Asymmetrical clipping. It sounds great when blended with the Dist + though.

Has anyone tried building an overdrive pedal consisting of just the Mutron III bypass circuit?

I have used both the OD-2r and the MXR boxes. really both do the trick, actually kind of suprising how similar the OD-2r is to the MXR when A/B'd, with my GCX. Frankly though neigher gave me the really deep sparkle tone of the '87/In the Dark over drive tone, which is what I'm still searching out.

I have both in my effects chain. They are totally different distortion pedals. I use the MXR as a boost/distortion pedal for mostly solo parts. The Boss is 100% late 80's/early 90's Jerry distortion. The Boss is more of an overdrive pedal. The MXR is very warm, almost like a fuzz pedal, whereas the boss is just all out eighties overdrive. I like both, and use whatever I am in the mood at the time. Hope that helps. If you can only choose one, I'd go with the MXR. It's a lot more flexible.

I use all three and an Xotic RC booster on a loop with the wah. The OD-1 I have is just magic. Keep going back to it. The MXR+ is pretty nice by itself, especially just; guitar > pedal > tube amp, but the germaniums don't love the buffering in the loops and it tends to drop out and become less responsive when engaged. It does perk up along with the Bosses. This seems to change with various output impedance loads as well.

Similar to a number of "clean boost" pedals out there.

Most clean boosts use fets. The mutron uses half of a 4558 opamp with a voltage bias of +9v and -9v, A somewhat unconventional setup.
