Yo! Yup, I own two of those. The original Serrano Picosso and now the Super Chili Boost. As I was told.....
Both made from the same boost circuit but the Super Chili Boost also has a fat switch with low mids kick

Racked up I have the original but on my board I use the Chili and kick in the fat switch when I cut down from dual to single or out of phase!

FWIW I have an LPB1 and when in basic boost mode it colors the tone heavily by adding a bunch of high end (setting 10 O'clock). It is nice for solo's though, the high end is good for cutting through. The GE7 can be tailored to cut or boost what ever frequency quite easily OTOH, but using it flat and only adjusting volume would probably color the tone as noted. I would think you could use the GE7 to get pretty close to the line signal through slight EQ tweaks. Maybe a high end boutique boost is less "colorful".

Well because of this thread...I broke down and got a new Boss EQ. It just arrived and as I tool around with it, Im glad I have one again. IMHO its worth it!

I was just listening to our gig last Saturday night and what I heard and felt on stage was well represented in the mix. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of results I can get. It will be nice to have the clean delay nice and loud.

mine is silent but like I said its brand new so we will see how it goes...there is mods out there for sure but Im into how it sounds. Im also NOT using my GCX right now all the pedals are going into each other. Oct>Mutron>Od2>EQ>Phase 100>Carbon Copy>SMS>Crown>Cab very silent. I hear no tone loss...yet!

My old Boss EQ is beat up but very quiet. No noise on or off.

My boss eq is really noisy. i think something may be wrong with it.

I tried to use it after my super od to mimic turning down my guitar tone knob and I could not get the same tones. I thought that Jerry might have done this so he wouldnt have to turn his tome knob down when using OD, just flip the switch and go!

The tone knob on my guit really affects the tone through the mac with OD. The Boss EQ eqs it but I dont get the harmonics with the EQ.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

IMO there is only 1 way to use an eq and minimize noise:
1 cut only
2 use only the signal boost

each slider has a gain stage that can, and usaully does, add noise

I thought I saw a pic of Jerry's 90's rig with not one but two equalizers with different settigns on each one?

Keir, lets talk boss. 10 hz sliders plus 1 volume, yes?

I say CUT on the 10 hz sliders then, if needed, boost with the volume

An ez has a gain stage for each HZ slider that is used if you boost. So say if you use all 11 you'd introduce 11 add'l gain stages in to your signal chain!!!

I like the MXR M-108 10 band, separate input gain and output volume sliders. That gives you some leeway about boosting certain parts of the signal-

I use my boss eq close to the end of the chain, and I cut the lows and the highs to make a frowny face, with the mids just below the 0 line. I then boost the level. I want some of the coloration from that. I like the accentuated mids when soloing. I do use it as a boost sometimes, but knowing that the coloration is there.
I recently added a boss LS2 line selector, which I use as a boost, and to activate my solo pedals (ts, dist, qtron, oct, etc.). I have them in one loop, and my delay and eq are in the straight loop. I blend the wet loop with the dry loop so I always have a dry signal in some way. I like it.
The GE7 is a nice pedal, but like anything that accentuates frequencies it can be noisy. I have always been intrigued by having it modded. The mods are cheap. Just never done it, since I dont have a noise issue other than general od line noise sometimes.
