Peavey Super Festival F800G

Hey My Bob Weir People,
I just scored the infamous 78 Peavey Super Festival F800G. Not Bob's but the same model. Does anyone know about this beast? The reverb doesn't seem to be working. Surprise, surprise!

Do you guys know the 78 tone. It's slightly different when Bob used the Peavey. It may have something to do with the phase/rate knobs adding color.

I have the same amp. I haven't used it in a while and I've been looking to sell it. Just need to thin the heard...

It's a monster of an amp - real big, heavy (but lighter than a twin!) and built like a tank. SUPER clean sound. It can push 800 watts into 2 ohms. I always used it without any of the onboard effects. I have gigged with this amp!

Bob used it in '78 with his Ibanez AD230 & UE700 and ran it into a McIntosh. The pre-amp out must have been a mod because the stock amp doesn't have one. I wish mine had the same jack as I'd love try it as just a pre-amp.

Question: I'm pretty sure that the Shakedown on the Egypt recording is the very first Shakedown played. It's quite unique in its arrangement and the very beginning sounds just like the album version. What effect is Bobby using with the 'wah' sound??? It' pre-dates the Ibanez AF201 or AF9 and the AD230/UE700 don't have that effect...

Has to be a wah. Sounds like it goes from parked about 2/3 up to heel down.

Listen to his recurring riff: the 1 2 3 sound bright, but 4 is dark and we an hear a sweep.

I only knew cuz I queried DeadBase for 1978 & Shakedown. I think I like it better. BUT I find using a wah for that long annoying.

Hey mkaufman,

Have you ever looked inside the amp at the reverb unit? Like I mentioned, it doesn't seem to be working. Is there something I'm missing, or is the reverb knob the only source for the reverb. There's no switch, etc.
What does the foot pedal do? I don't have one.

The reverb is controlled by the footswitch. Not 100% sure if you need the footswitch to turn it on. If you PM me your email address, I can send you the manual.
