Maybe some sort of pedal or filter on that Yamaha fake-piano thing that he used in those days?

Oh! that was easy.

Any idea how it was set? I have a Nord to play with that has a lot of the same oscillators and filters and whatnot but I don't really have a good understanding of it.

I like that keyboard lick he plays. It sounds like a wood-block patch to me. Maybe in the Marimba family.
