I finally got a matching pickup for the bridge. These are vintage Super 2s but they sound like new (no degradation in tone).

i just picked up one of these vintage super 2's and am also now on the hunt for a bridge one.

Hi there - I thought I'd post some pics of my Jerry-inspired guitar. It is a wonderful Troy Post guitar (http://www.postguitars.com/index.html), with an SDS-1 neck, Super II middle/bridge pickup configuration. The beautiful plate was made made by Cliff Suttle of Shark Inlay (http://www.sharkinlay.com). I couldn't be happier with the entire guitar. I have been playing it through Brad Sarno's SMS Classic > one channel of a Mac2505 > a Hogan 2x12 cab with Weber Neo Mags. All of it sounds just beautiful - no doubt the only weak link is the player! As far as the guitar itself goes, I highly recommend working with Troy and Cliff. Both were fantastic to work with, and I'd do it again in a heart beat. Of course, working with Brad and Hogan was excellent as well. Anyhow, here it is:

Nice guitar Chute. Can you tell me what he did with the neck pickup? I see the humbucker pickup ring but is that black painted wood around the sds-1 or some sort of black plastic covering the rest of the hole.

Hey thanks! The material around the neck pickup is some kind of black plastic-like material - definitely not wood. I put a call in to Troy to find out exactly what it is and will post when I find out. He set me up with a humbucker space in that position in case I ever want to slap another Super II in there....

I also couldnt be happier with how this project came out! The black plate around the sds-1 is made from a sheet of thin plastic that I found in an art supply store in Charlottesville, VA. I found some pre-made plates at allparts.com but they were only offered in a slanted style like a strat bridge pickup and we wanted a straight config like Tiger. I tried a few different materials and in the end this was the most durable and would alow a switch to a humbucker down the road if wanted. Here is my first attempt at building a guitar. In fact - my first project period. A lot of good people loaned tools to me and I made lots of mistakes. The entire guitar was built from planks of wood to exactly match the Tiger. I took some liberty in the neck by putting a thick cocobolo slab right down the center. Andrew at AO Guitars setup the frets and wiring for me and did a fantastic job. Sounds superb. I like this guitar even with all it's imperfections and I love how it's starting to look aged already. It's been a year on this guitar. If I build another it's going to be a Wolf. Buffer from Waldo. Cocobolo, tiger maple, ebony, and some mahogany in the neck.

Living in New Orleans for years inspired me to use the Fleur de lis on my ebony battery cover and in the headstock there's a pretty rare solid brass with enamel doubloon with "A Token Of Youth" written on it. This coin is what got the whole things started. I wondered what it would look like on my own guitar.

Thank you! I can't help but look at it and see all the flaws. But when I am playing it I am all smiles. I love all the tones that are possible with this setup.

One question - how close should the pickups be to the strings? I hear some odd pitch changes when I tune and wondering if the pickups are a bit close.
