Super fun to read this thread after seeing Stu a lot for the last 5 years but only delving in the rukind forum for a few weeks. Wow. I'm so lucky Stu plays within easy distance, like, all the time. By way of updating this chronicle I can verify that in late 2016 Stu's rig here in NorCal remains composed of the pieces discussed in this thread, with the addition of course of his own beautiful Moriarty guitar. IIRC that guitar debuted in fall 2011 and has been his main axe since. I've seen his festy rig with the 3x12 cab and MC2300 a few times but mostly it's Guitar>OBEL w/ pedalboard on the floor>SMS Pre>MC250>2xE120 Soundscaper cabinet. The SMS is in a 2u rack with a Furman and the McIntosh travels in a Pelican case. The SG Brad Sarno wired in 2010 (see earlier in this thread) is almost always there as a backup. Stu also got a Travis Bean, sometimes he plays all 3 guitars in the course of a show. He also has a 1x12 cabinet but I haven't seen it for a while. Stu maintains amazing tone whether stage volume is cranked or quite low. A couple times I've seen him show up travelling light with the Fender combo and an SG, and indeed found that tone rather ice picky compared to the enchanting smokey butter of the jerry-esque rig. As folks have noted here Stu is very humble and down to earth, but man what a master on the frets. The sophistication and composure of the ideas he ventures in solos are a privilege to behold. To me he truly owns the 'Jerry style' from the inside. That seeing Stu a lot also involves seeing the very large rotating cast of amazing musicians he plays with (pretty often including Phil Lesh!) does not suck.
