Hey everyone! I LOVE to see that I'm not the only CRAZY JERRY ADDICT that HAD to build his own TIGER!
Here's a few pics of my homebuilt Tiger and a vintage Ibanez "bobby" style guitar. After 15 years playing the tiger, It's time to build another. I'm collecting wood now and will massage the body shape to make it a little 'horny'er". This one's lower boute was based on a LP I had at the time and is a little smaller over all and the horns are smaller and point to the headstock.
25.5" scale. 1.72" nut width. Fat 'C' profile neck almost an acoustic neck really. Pretty high action and 'vintage' frets. Bridge pickup is a SuperIII, middle is a SuperII and Neck is a 'humbucker from hell'. Has a OBEL and Silicon Transitor unity Gain P-amp. Wiring is Standard fender 5way selector with tone pots on middle and bridge. Middle and bridge pickups have coil selectors, that is, one coil or the other. No serial or parallel humbucking available. Neck pickup is serial humbucking ONLY and NO TONE CONTROL.
Body and neck are Rock Maple core. Next one will be Western Big Leaf 'soft' maple as it should be. Laminates are Padauk under Cocobolo top and back and padauk center pc on the neck. I didn't do a lam. of maple veneer between the top and back laminates so it doesn't really show up. Over-all thickness is about 2.125" and 1.625" at the edge. Weighs in at about 12lbs. I would decribe the clean tone as very 'piano like'. When playing with some gain it has a kind of natural wah to the notes. A Bass playing friend of mine calls it 'pitch focus' similar to the way a string bass' notes blossum as they decay. People ask me how I did it and I reply 'I don't know'!
I'm going on VACA so won't be around for a while. When I get back I'll post some sounds.
Will
