I made my first body template today, it turned out OK. Other then a few slips with the jigsaw i think it turned out pretty good. I can't wait to have some real pictures to show off.

I have been poking around the interweb for quite some time looking for aluminum knobs as close to the originals as I could find. This morning I stumbled across this website that I think would be very helpful to anyone looking for Wolf knobs. they may be the closest to the originals I have been able to find. Check them out.

I'm still trying to figure out how Jerry got that monster tone from Wolf when it returned in Sept '77... According to Waldo's site it still had Fender type single coils, but the sound is huge and overdriven when compared to '74 Wolf. The Dimarzio Dual sounds were not added till late '78. Any thoughts????

Different amp settings than he had used in the early 70's? different amp mods? Using the guitar tone pot differently? Using the gain from the Mutron pedal?

That's what I'm trying to figure out, because the tone is so different from '73-'74 Wolf. Listen to the Wolf scream on Dicks Picks 10 for example...

73-74 did not have effects aside from a wah, and alembic a the helm. 77 had the chance of effects being in the picture and healy at the helm. 77 wolf was played thru the blackface with a master volume, maybe he was pushing the preamp to it's limit?

Glued and clamped the first side of the guitar today. That was interesting for sure, I learned a lot and the next side will be much smoother and I will use more glue.







Construction has officially begun, no longer just a fantasy but actually becoming a reality.

Just a note on your clamping technique... (I don't have the proper laminating press either ) you should put a very ridged piece on top/bottom, before the clamps to spread the pressure out as far as possible... just having the clamp surface causes it to make pressure at that point only, and will actually bow the wood, though a small amount, and you may see the difference in the thickness of the pinstriping... at least you should use a 3/4" thick pad under each clap point... I use 3/4" particle board and it works pretty well... not as good as the proper press, but good enough that I know it's evenly pressed, and you can't see the variations in the laminations. Those are some pretty big gaps between clamps, and using the 3/4" pads would spread the squeeze out more... more clamps would help too, but I know, they are expensive!

Looks like you got some nice wood there "o) can't wait to see it finished.
