Thanks for the kind words... next comes my least favorite part of the process: making templates and routing out for the pups and electronics... I like that 'instant' gratification! It's time consuming and a bit tedious, and hogging that much wood out of a project this far along is totally nerve-wracking... I just want to carve the body and get it oiled so I can see what it'll look like. Working with wood is always a bit of a mystery/suprise as you never 'really' know what it will look like finished. How the grains are working together, or what grain you'll end up with after carving.

Just thought I'd add this... I angled the body as much as I could, given the construction of the neck. The depth of the neck (in the body) was about 1/4" more than the body thickness, so I just angled the body on the neck, glued, and routed off the excess... This gives a bit more room for the bridge, and makes it a little more comfortable to play...

That is a really great looking piece of work so far!

I guess the bottom line for me is: no Garcia guitar "clones" for me... rather "inspired" editions and variations on a theme!

That's a great mantra to follow- I built a Warmoth Wolf back in the mid-90s, and I wound up with something that looked great, but just didn't fit my playing styles/preferences.

Looking forward to seeing pics of future progress!

Well I finally got to spend some serious time this past couple of weeks... here are some pics of the current condition. I'm planning on finishing in about a month

Hi Tom,

Doug at Soul Mate Guitars made the neck, with a blank head... I did the shaping and the overlay.

I've got material for several flame/purple heart/walnut necks, but I haven't wanted to take the time yet... I don't have a big shaper, or band saw, so I'd have to carve the whole thing by hand. I've been wanting to do it, it's just a matter of time

Here's what I got done last night... cover plate for the back cavity is shaped, a sup-plate for the artwork to go on for the front cavity, and more body shaping and sanding

Got the neck/body join shaped and the whole thing sanded to 220... man it feels comfortable to hold The finish is coming soon. I've still got to do inlay on the headstock, but I may oil the body and neck before that, just because I can't stand to wait any longer
