A few of us used to use and re-use one called "Last Saturday's setlist" or something like that, but despite our efforts, it remained something of an "secret setlist thread". Really?

I guess it's a matter of finding a venue that doesn't have it's own built in crowd - one where you have to bring in your own crowd. Easier said than done though. It definitely takes a lot of marketing and legwork to get the word out to people and get a crowd built up.

I agree with Mike, for obvious reasons. Heh! But it really does work. I played in BS classic rock and Top 40 and even modern country cover bands for years... they work well in places where people go to see that kind of music, but it's only a very few people who would travel even a short distance to see them. For Fennario OTOH, random fans have driven an hour just to see us and even record the show. And we pull a good local crowd wherever we play.

The Dead's music pretty much sells itself, all you have to do is spread the word... it's much easier than both spreading the word and convincing people that your mixed-music cover band is worth seeing, even if you have a really good band.

Best to play places where the GD is expected/loved, like places that do a regular "Dead night", etc.

Let the good times roll in the straw, but don't put a spell on that dire wolf. Because just like Tom Thumb from Tennessee watching those rays that shine and waiting for a miracle, he is never alone and ready to deal! Oh Darling, I got those Cumberland blues but it's all good even though he's gone truckin. The lady with a fan is trying to estimate a prophet with her crazy fingers at Terrapin Station and is hoping that dear Mr Fantasy won't have those runaway blues so he can give her some good lovin. I'd sure would second that emotion and hope they shake it sugaree.
