Could somebody sum up the story about this Kenny for those who haven't heard of him?
It sounds interesting, was he some kind of theory teacher in this community?
Could jesus microwave a burrito so hot that he himself could not eat it?

mental image of Kenny

Postby Tennessee Jedi » Wed Nov 14, 2007 11:26 am

My mental image of Kenny is now Dustin Hoffman from RainMan.
But with a guitar.
And a Devil fetish. :hd:

Kenny was a good guy, a one of a kind but still a good guy. I traded a few pm's with him and he was a nice guy and very helpful and giving with his knowledge and advice.

Wish he was still here

But funny thing was once he was gone I really got bummed that I couldn't ask this expert what ever it was that I didn't/couldn't figure out.

Then I decided it was time to start the long road of becoming an expert.

I really miss lurking and learning all times of cool stuff and I wish he was still here, but I've learned so much because of his absence.

I really do wish the best for him, where ever he is.

I'm still working on distilling all the Kenny Threads.

Down to 31 pages in size 10 font.

Just so everyone knows, I am not that impressed with what I'm finding. More often than not, he would repeat himself or state something in a long-winded way.

It is a part time effort, the distillation, and the bottle-necks come from deciding what to toss out and what to keep.

I'm heading toward the idea of tossing all of his specific song tripe, and some of his back and forth with individual posters. It's actually good that I stepped away from it for a bit because it gives me a new perspective.

The stuff I am thinking of keeping are his descriptions of how each mode is the ionian with a couple of changes (flats or sharps), even though I've seen the same stuff elsewhere and don't appreciate, yet, the advantages of thinking this way.

Then his mention of what Merl Suanders brought to Garcia's chording, how you apply different chord colorings and have a specific palette to work from, and then the diminished chord and its application.

This is about all I'm finding, but I haven't looked at it in a few weeks.

Hey Old Man -
I undertook a similar project - pm me if you'd like to trade files. My approach was to remove all of the sarcasm/jokes and use q/a between posters as a form of application/example. (Didn't touch the content in The Kenny Archive" only the Think Tank Archive. I've been editing it down to the following sections (46 pages w/formatting):

THE CHALK TALKS
THE PATTERNS TO SUCCESS (a/k/a Modes)
PATTERN EXAMPLES
A BRIEF DIVERSION INTO CHORDS
I-IV-V
II-III-IV
..AND MORE MODE DISCUSSION
MODE QUIZ
CHORD SUBSTITUTION
HOW CHORDS ARE CATEGORIZED
ALTERING EXISTING CHORDS
THE DARK STAR EXAMPLE
GRATEFUL DEAD SONGS AND LEAD SCALES
A BRIEF PEP TALK

Personally, I'd love to see what BOTH of you are cooking up. Some really good stuff in there. Thanks for taking on this project, it's something that really needed to be done. :hail:
