I quit my band. I'm so HAPPY!

It's kind of like the feeling you get when you get out of a bad relationship. Now I know why my ex-bandmate has been married and divorced three times...or is it four? What an asshole. Love the guy! Still my bro...but...what an asshole. I heard through the grapevine that they despise me now. Cool. My phone might stop ringing.

Well, to put it kindly... the other guitarist was a no-talent hack who never practiced or tried to improve. Now, that is not so bad! I can have all kinds of fun playing with no-talent hacks...if they are good guys and they bring something to the table to somehow better the music! But I got nothing but disrespect and grief from the guy, and he did nothing to enhance my music. And not only that, every other day the guy did something stupid and I had to clean up the mess. He got to be like a puppy that couldn't learn to stop crapping in the house.

hmmm... I had my first paying gig ever last night, and this guy we were playing with was just a complete nutcase, and didn't know how to connect with anyone else in the band.

Also, he came 45 minutes late and missed the soundcheck, and then goes for a "walk" and dissapears for a half an hour. Halfway through our first song, he comes in and stumbles onto the stage completely wasted. Then he kept carrying out our jams way too long, so we only got to play like three or four songs in like fourty five minutes. What an idiot.

But whatever, we're not playing with him again.

I too quit my band and am happy for it, but for different reasons. When we started four years ago, I had just dropped out of a country-western band and never wanted to do that kind of thing again. I ran into a singer/songwriter that I got along real fine with and who, at first, seemed very interested in my vision of a psychedelic/country rock/jam band thing like the New Riders or the Dead from the Workingman's Dead/American Beauty era. But eventually, as we developed into a four-piece band, it turned out that they didn't understand what the whole scene was about, they were interested only in the country stuff, the fast 2/4 time songs and found any tune longer than three minutes annoying. The bass player, an ex-punk, said he hated hippies and the drummer, who, BTW, had a pretty brutal playing style and nowhere near the skills required for a good country drummer (he even disliked to play shuffles, go figure), claimed he hated electric guitars...I finally couldn't take it anymore.

well since we're all givin out greif, my band hasnt practiced in a month and a half. our singer departed (on good terms too, thanks for the advice on that one everyone) and we got one of my friends to play rythm guitar and sing. during our month long hiatus i wrote a bunch of songs and things and started teaching them to the band, but the new guy will NOT learn how to play anything he doesnt want to play himself, makes no effort at practices and whenever i try to get him to help me write stuff he just makes noises while i try to teach him progressions. i finally sent him all the recordings of the songs i wrote and tabs for all of them via email, so if he doesnt learn them.... well i'm going to have to learn how to sing

Well, at least you have guys have a band to quit. I was getting together with my neighbors who are all beginers and I have tell the keyboardist and bass player what notes to play. And the other guitar player only knows like 3 chords.

I was just so desperate to play with other people I didnt care. Also we cant get together too often since music is not high on thier priority list.

I dont have to go out and play gigs, just want to get some jamming in and have some fun.

The last band I was in was a really good blues band about 20 years ago. We were all real high and the music was very good regardless. I started to clean up and my playing really suffered when I was trying to get straight, I had to quit the band because I couldnt get sober and hang with those guys anymore.

I have recently been in touch with the lead guitarist, who is straight now too. He wants to play but he lives 1000 miles away!!

Had a band.Bass guy just wouldn't put any effort into learning new tunes. It was the same stuff over and over.Me and the drummer wanted to learn some harder Dead tunes. This guy just did not want to practice on his own time. Finally the drummer got pissed off when I was always having to show Bass boy "Sugaree" over and over. Now I got no band. That sucks.I love to check out the home grown RU Kind bands-my fav. is RamblinRose.....
