He'd vary the strumming some what by giving three strums to both the B7 and E shapes before going back to the B. (of course among various other nuances)

Jam progression:

Most of the jam is improv over B but for a while they went to this progression after the B jam.

B--A--D--F# and eventually holding the F# before going back to the verse riff.

Think of it like a waltz:
E (6 count)

Then coming out of it in hold onto the B, build it up, then drop it into the main riffs.


Mind you, this used to get played alot and tons of different ways. The style I submitted here is what is on a show I favor.

I'm curious about your end progression. Which version is it from?

Billbbill, someone asked me the same question the other day and regretfully I was just listening to a show, grabbed my acoustic, learned it, wrote it down, and forgot to record the show date.

It was a late 60s style. Here is the best description:

Normal noodling>spaces out>comes back into struction>begins that waltz-like jam>builds up into a big orgasmic style jam then BAM! back into the main riff.

Wait, maybe it's from the All Access VHS tape.

I honestly don't know but it sure is fun.

I think the B chord shot I have (the bold 7's) is actually jerry and I think he hit it one position up and would follow it with a little riff. Something like this.

I don't hear the E after the F# that strummin6 posted. Gives it that Midnight Hour intro feel. Maybe they used it at times to end or transistion the tune??

They didn't always use it. But yes, they used it when the jam really picked up at the end and before they went back into the main riff.

B blues pentatonic w/some passing notes and the natural third (Eb) is in play as well...is what I do.

Incidently, this version does the rock vs waltz: B A D F# then holds the F# to build up
