I concur that the aluminum neck adds a certain ring, don't know if its the ring you are hearing but you gotta me wanting to check out those shows... Had a roommate with a Travis bean guitar and bass... They both seemed to have that characteristic.
Oh and check out the sound scraper cabs. I have a 1 x 12 and a 2 x 12 and they are great and very reasonably priced.

It seems odd to me that Jerry would just be using the Boogie as pre-amp. In some of the photo's it can be clearly seen that he has a JBL K120 in the Boogie. Is it possible to have the amp serve as a combo while also having it pre-amped into the MC2300?
