Anyone use the SMS direct live or for recording?

Anyone use the SMS direct live or for recording?

My small duo rig is a tech21 blonde pedal into the pa, and sometimes for recording

Just curious what others use

I know there are some pedal steel players who go direct with the SMS Classic, but I know of very few guitar players who can achieve a nice tone without going thru an amp and a real speaker. So much of the magic happens when a guitar speaker moves real air. I'm not a big fan of direct guitar.

I'm not a fan totally. Just aged knees would like to try an SMS->5lb Class D power amp ->1x15 cab. About as lightweight as you can get, other option might be preamp -> Powered PA speaker but thats just as heavy and not as good for Guitar I'd guess.

Gotta get more gigs so I can GET an SMS though!

I believe it gets no finer than this. Ultra high end Class-D amplifier and 1-12" cab. He could likely provide this with the appropriate JBL loaded in it or maybe sell without speaker. I use this for pedal steel. 29lbs, 300 watts into 8-ohms, 500 watts into 4 ohms.

A few facts I'll add:
1) TC is a super nice guy. Brad told him to expect a call from me, I did, we met, shook hands, 10 minutes later he let me take one to test out.
2) The SPLIT sounds amazing. All the portability and volume of a powered main/monitor but sounds like a guitar cab
3) It's so frickin' light it's amazing
4) Build quality was wonderful!

I'm intrigued...

How much is the TC unloaded?

Looked like JK went direct last night on the Furthur broadcast, all I saw was a monitor behind him, no cabinet with E-120s in sight. His rack was split in two, with the pedals on one side, and a Trio on the other.

Weir had a pair of small Mesa amps and Phil a small Eden rig. Club date

That's what I saw in the Port Chester shows. Was wondering what was going on...

Wasn't that show from Sweetwater? If so the place is much smaller than it looks in pics.

As I recall the intent is for intimate shows, closer together on stage, etc, etc.

I'm just saying that when I saw P&F with JK in November, JK didn't appear to have an amp on stage. Seems like he had the same setup at Sweetwater.
